Hitachi Sets CO2 Reduction Target for All Domestic Operations:

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Hitachi Ltd. (6501) announced on Monday a set of environmental targets that encompasses all domestic group operations and includes a goal to cut total carbon dioxide emissions 7% in fiscal 2010 from fiscal 1990 levels.  Setting a specific quantity for the CO2 reduction goal is something that only Sony Corp. (6758) and a few other Japanese companies have done. Most companies define their reduction targets in terms of sales or production activity.  But Japan as a nation has pledged to reduce CO2 emissions by 6% as part of the Kyoto Protocol, so corporations will need to set specific targets like this for the country to meet its obligation.

Hitachi said during the four years through fiscal 2010 it will spend some 60 billion yen on matters related to the environment, a 12% increase from the past four years.  Of that total, 20 billion yen will be spent on measures to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve energy. The company plans aggressive spending on power-management systems for factories and on equipment such as high-efficiency power transformers.  Hitachi also announced several other environmental targets for fiscal 2010 . It aims to reduce its output of waste by 20% from the fiscal 2000 level. It also seeks to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds 45% from fiscal 2000 levels.

On February 28, 2008, Mid-America Packaging's Corp HQ in St. Louis hosted Regional Training for Nordson. MT King, Bentley Boger, and Rick Pallante of Nordson(Atlanta, GA)spent the day talking about new products and enviornmental sustainability. Fab-Ron of Arkansas came up for the day to join in the training session. It was a productive day for everyone.

AJ Adhesives/MAP Year End Sales Meeting

AJ Adhesives and Mid America Packaging held their biannual sales meeting Dec 18-20, 2007 at the St. Louis Corporate HQ. Isabelle Valois from Montreal delivered the 3 day meeting's most talked about peresentation, 'Adhesive Sustainability for the Future'. Product life-cycle, biodegradability, and waste reduction are all hot topics for our end use customers. We hosted all of our suppliers for product training. Dan Norton, Mike Ford, and Paul Jovais were all recocnized for their outstanding performance in 2007. One entire day is spent on forcasting for 2008 and sales presentation coaching. The meeting concluded with our annual Holiday Party at McGurk's Irish Pub in soulard.
